What are Same-Day Dental Crowns?

While traditional dental crowns are made at a separate laboratory, same-day crowns can be created right here at our office. The system has three main components: an infrared camera for taking digital impressions, software for determining the right size and shape for your crown, and a milling machine that can create the final restoration out of a block of porcelain.

The Process of Getting a Same-Day Dental Crown

You only need to schedule one visit to our office to receive a Same-day crown. The process involves the following steps:

  • The tooth in question will be prepared as needed. (This can involve removing a small amount of enamel as well as any decayed areas.)
  • The digital camera will take multiple pictures of your tooth.
  • The specialized software will use the images from the previous step to design a crown that meets your needs as precisely as possible.
  • Once a design has been finalized, the milling machine will create your crown. This typically takes around 20 minutes.
  • When the crown is ready, we will cement it into its place on your tooth.

The Benefits of Same-day Crowns vs. Traditional Crowns

Needless to say, getting a Same-crown takes much less time than getting a traditional crown. You don’t need to worry about scheduling two appointments or having to spend multiple weeks wearing a temporary crown. On top of that, our Same-day crowns are made out of porcelain, which gives them a very natural appearance; you won’t have to worry about eyes being drawn to your dental work for the wrong reasons.
